Economist Eduardo Montero, professor at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago, visited Espol’s Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) to lead the in-person workshop Approaches to the Analysis of Illicit Markets, held on October 15 and 16.

Professor Gerardo Castro, from the Archaeology program at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, took part in the International Symposium “500 Years Since the Encounter with the Manteña Raft,” held on October 6 and 7, 2026, in Manta. The event was organized by the Civic Committee for the Historical Memory of Manta and the Eloy Alfaro University of Manabí. In his talk, Professor Castro shared the progress of his project, Archaeology and History of the Diaspora of the Equatorial Sea.
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) of ESPOL is organizing the sixth edition of the virtual international conference Reducing Poverty in Latin America 2026. The event brings together researchers from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and North Macedonia, who will present recent findings on how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming social, educational, and labor conditions across the region. Attendance is free, with prior registration and limited seats.
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) at ESPOL has started the international accreditation process for its Archaeology program. The accrediting body is the Council for the Accreditation of Communication and Social Sciences (CONAC in Spanish). Accreditation is an official recognition of quality. This process is part of ESPOL's strategic plan. The plan aims to improve our programs every year and to gain international recognition for their quality.
Professors Andrea Yánez, from the Tourism program, and Mary Jovanna Rivadeneira, from the Auditing and Management Control program, took part in the 26th edition of the Experiential Classroom event, organized by Florida State University, the University of Notre Dame, the University of Tampa, and the University of Florida, and held at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) of ESPOL welcomed 163 students who are about to begin their university life: one hundred and sixty-three stories and ways of seeing the world that now begin to come together in a shared space, to learn how societies are built, organized, and transformed.
Following a welcome ceremony on the Rectorate esplanade, the incoming students met with the Faculty's authorities and academic coordinators, with the aim of getting to know them and learning how they will work together.
